Ernest Mezak was taken to the special detention center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Syktyvkar. A protocol was drawn up against him on disobedience to the lawful demands of a police officer under Part 1 of Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code. Mezak published the document on the Telegram channel. It says that on January 31st, the police asked him to go with them to the department because of another administrative case, but Mezak refused to comply with their demands. The 7x7 correspondent reported that the human rights activist was forced into a car and was hit on the leg several times.

On March 10th, lawyers Pavel Milanovich and Vladislav Kosnyrev from the “Apology of Protest”* human rights project came to the police department to see Mezak.

In Moscow, Mezak planned to defend Marina Litvinovich, a member of the Public Monitoring Commission (ОNК), in court. In December 2020, she was fined 150 thousand rubles. for repeated violation of the rules for participation in a public action (part 8 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code) due to the summer action to collect signatures against amendments to the Constitution.

In March 2021, the Public Monitoring Commission of Moscow (ОNК) voted to expel Litvinovich from the organization. She was accused of disclosing the data of the investigation against the lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Foundation* Lyubov Sobol. Litvinovich told the media that she visited Sobol in a temporary detention center in December 2020. The politician told the human rights activist that her protective mask and shoes were taken away and she was interrogated at night. The petition against the expulsion of Litvinovich from the Public Monitoring Commission (ОNК) on the Change.org website was signed by more than 13 thousand users.

Ernest Mezak is a well-known human rights activist in Komi and Russia, a former lawyer of the “Public Verdict” human rights foundation*. In 2012, he became a laureate of the Moscow Helsinki Group Human Rights Award in the nomination “For defending human rights in court”. The human rights activist succeeded in having the European Court of Human Rights found a violation of the right to freedom of assembly to prohibit activists from demonstrating on Stefanovskaya Square in Syktyvkar. Mezak obtained pilot court decisions on the "inhuman conditions" of transporting prisoners.
