Maria Kreitor and Oleg Mandrykin were detained on the morning of March 9th for a rally in defense of the park, which took place on February 28th. It was a meeting of opponents of this new housing, at which they handed out info leaflets “All the Truth about Kvartal-100” and collected PET bottle caps to support the local charity eco project “Caps for Good”. Activists have held similar meetings every Sunday for three months.
According to Kreitor, the administrative case was opened after the report of an unknown police officer.
— In general, a very unclear situation. We were allegedly detained on February 28th. On this day, the police were not in the park, although they are present every Sunday [at the actions to protect the park]. Some policeman who saw us somewhere, wrote a report, - Kreitor commented - If the policeman saw an offense from our side, why did not he come up and immediately say about it.
The activists were taken to the Severodvinsk City Court.
In Severodvinsk, the authorities, without the consent of local residents, gave the central city park for construction, where the developer "Akvilon-Invest Severodvinsk" plans to build a large comfort class residential complex. Instead of the park, the authorities promised the residents to equip a recreational zone on that site. The authorities didn't coordinate the transfer of the park territory with the locals. The activists wrote appeals to the governor of the Arkhangelsk region Alexander Tsybulsky and the prosecutor's office, invited the deputies of the regional Duma and the municipal council of Severodvinsk, and tried to hold a referendum. A few days ago, the developer installed fences around the park to prepare the site for construction.
