12:13 Update
The police, having found no reason to detain the blogger, released him. He left the park.
— I am at the monument [to Yasha Stepanov, the defender of Petrozavodsk]. The builders do not forbid you to approach the monument, but did not come in through the gates, I used a hole in the fence just 10 meters away. The builders called the police, three policemen are now here with me, - said Trunov. — They don't tell me the reason of detaining me.
According to Trunov, the police are going to draw up an administrative report and take him to the police station. The blogger explained that he came to watch the monument to Yasha Stepanov — there was information at the weekend that it might be dismantled this week.
The memorial sign to Yasha Stepanov, the defender of Petrozavodsk, was installed in the Kamenny Bor Park at the soldier’s death site (he was shot by a sniper in October 1941) in the early 1990s. The builders dismantled the monument during the forest clearing on the construction site of a kindergarten, the Kamenny Bor Park’s defenders installed a new memorial sign on their own after that.
Forest clearing began in the Kamenny Bor Park in early February 2020. According to the Federal Target Program, it is planned to build a kindergarten there under the government contract of the Major Construction Work Department. A private company initially planned to build a sports and recreation center on the neighboring land plot, but the public resonance made the tenant of the first land plot refuse the land. Construction work continued on the site for the construction of a kindergarten.
Park’s defenders found several violations in issuing permits for the land clearing — recommendation was passed on to the Mayor’s office and the pre-investigation check has begun in order to estimate damage caused by cutting down the trees in the Kamenny Bor Park.Â
On April 19, local residents found human remains in the park, which, according to activists, might belong to the Red Army soldiers—  the park was a scene of the Great Patriotic War.
