The Petrozavodsk City Court had acquitted Ivan Voronov, the deputy head of the Office of Criminal Investigations of the Petrozavodsk Administration of Ministry of Internal Affairs, Rinat Gratiy, the senior district police officer of Precinct 2, and Svetlana Horina, the senior investigator of theВ Office of Criminal Investigations of the Administration of Ministry of Internal Affairs. They were charged under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Neglect of Duty Which Has Involved the Death of a Person).

According to investigators, if the police had taken timely measures against Anton Ipatov, who was nicknamed "a maniac of Petrozavodsk" in social networks, it would have been possible to prevent the death of two young women. In June 2018, Ipatov beat his drinking partner by cracking his head with a bottle, and three days before the gruesome murders, Ipatov attacked his juvenile acquaintance with a knife. The police did not detain the man — the cases on beating and assault with a knife were initiated when two women had already been murdered. In December 2019, Ipatov was sentenced to life imprisonment.
